As you may already know, SCLS performs routine maintenance on our bibliographic database on a monthly basis. With some assistance from LibLime, we delete all items that are marked Withdrawn in a batch process. If the withdrawn item is the last item on the bib record, we also delete the bib record and update our system's holdings in WorldCat. This step keeps our holdings up to date for interlibrary loan purposes. On the same date, we also work with LibLime to extract new bib records to perform authority control processing with another vendor. Authority control helps our subject headings and name access points stay current. This "database janitor" work is important to our patrons and our staff. We usually perform this work during the last week of the month.
Why am I pointing this out to you this week? Because the last batch delete of withdrawn items process for 2013 will take place on Monday, December 30th in the early morning hours, well before you open for the day or start checking in your bookdrop items before opening. If you would like to make sure your holdings are at their most accurate for 2013 counts, please mark your discarded items Withdrawn by Sunday, December 29th to ensure their deletion in 2013.
Thank you for helping us to keep LINKcat shiny and bright!
