Criterion Collection sets now circulate together: change to Videorecordings Searching and Matching Policy

The Collection Maintenance Subcommittee (at its May 10, 2017 meeting) and the ILS Committee (at its June 7, 2017 meeting) (minutes) recently passed some changes to the Videorecordings Searching and Matching Policy, which is available online at http://www.scls.info/ils/policies/cat/linking-searchingandmatching-video-policy.html.

Going forward, Criterion Collection DVD or Blu-ray sets can be circulated together, on the same bib record. This is true even if the sets contain different movies or different productions of the same movie. 

This only applies to Criterion Collection sets. Non-Criterion Collection multi-part DVD or Blu-ray sets of different feature films or different productions of the same feature film are still circulated separately, according to the rules outlined in the Videorecordings Searching and Matching Policy.

Changes to Levels of Cataloging policy regarding materials that will not be cataloged

The Collection Maintenance Subcommittee (minutes) and the ILS Committee (minutes) recently passed some changes to the Levels of Cataloging Policy, which is available online at: http://www.scls.info/ils/policies/cat/levelsofcataloging-policy.html.

A new Appendix was added to the policy, listing "Materials that will not be cataloged." Materials listed in this section will not receive MARC cataloging and should not be added to either PERM or GENERIC bib records.

The materials listed in this section are:

• Advance or uncorrected proof copies of books
• Promotional videos of feature films on DVD or VHS
• Promotional sound recordings on CDs
• Unauthorized materials

"Unauthorized materials" is a little vague, but it covers any materials whose publication is not "authorized." This includes bootlegs or Grey market music CDs. In the past few months, some bootleg music CDs were added to Koha. Library staff did not know the items were bootlegs when the items were added to Koha. To help you identify possible bootlegs or Grey market music CDS, we have posted a list of music labels that publish bootlegs. ILS Vendor Demos
