Makerspace Shelving Location added to Koha

A new Shelving Location of MKSP (Makerspace) has been added to Koha. The MKSP Shelving Location was approved by the ILS Committee at its August meeting. The Shelving Location can be used by any LINKcat library.

Crystal Report Tweaks

Two of the reports in Crystal Reports have received minor changes.  First, the Weeding report now shows the "Other Status" field.  This was requested to help libraries determine what to do about items on the Weeding report without having to look the item up in the catalog to see if it had an "Other" status (AV Repair, Defect Reported, Mending, Parts Missing, etc.).  For a full list of "Other" statuses, see the Item Statuses page.  http://www.scls.info/ils/codes/item-status/statuses.pdf

The second tweak was to remove items that have a status of "withdrawn" but are still in the catalog from the Item Count report.  This will give a library a better sense of progress during weeding projects without having to wait until the monthly deletion of withdrawn items.  All other items statuses are still included on that report. 

SCLS Libraries to Conduct ILS Evaluation

The ILS Committee voted on August 2 to proceed with a formal evaluation of other available ILS vendors, with the goal of determining which, if any, software system SCLS libraries should consider for migration in 2018. (For more background on this decision, see the June 6, 2017 ILS minutes.) As a part of this process, we need volunteers to serve on a number of work groups and a coordinating group for the next several months. The time commitment for each of these groups will be considerable.There will be three full-day demos scheduled with three vendors: Innovative Interfaces (Polaris ILS), SirsiDynix (Symphony ILS), PTFS LibLime (Bibliovation) and there will be attendance requirements as detailed on the participation form. Each day of demos will be structured with similar topic groups (for example one day may be Circulation, one day may cover all of the Technical Services modules and one day may cover Patron Interfaces).  There will also be optional on-site visits with other library systems using each of these vendors. Please consider the time commitment (explained on the form) before deciding to participate. Recruitment ends at 5 pm on August 16. 

 

All SCLS library staff are invited to attend the demos even if they are not volunteering to participate on an evaluation group. Please contact Vicki Teal Lovely for info, or find the link on the ILS News Page.

News (in case you missed it!)

• 7/31/17 Registration Open - Koha Patron Record & Registration, September 26th from 1 - 4 pm at the Portage Public County Library in Stevens Point. Register online.
• 7/19/17 LibLime applied a "hotfix" last night to address holds functionality for another library system. This fix does not affect our holds functionality. See the status wiki for updates.
• 7/18/17 1,219 bibliographic records with no items attached (that were created before 4/1/17) were deleted from the database.
• 7/18/17 14,081 items and 1,639 bibliographic records (with only withdrawn items attached) were deleted in the monthly batch deletion of withdrawn items.
• 7/18/17 2,886 bibliographic records were added and/or updated in the database between 6/30/17 and 7/17/17.
• 7/17/17 LibLime will be applying a "hotfix" to the Koha staff client after 9 pm on Tuesday, July 18 to address holds development done for another library system. It will not affect our holds. There is no downtime for this procedure. See the status wiki for more information and updates.
